Stitched design of #4: Orange Morning

Assalaamu'allaykum.

I had just finished reading "Mistress of Spices" by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. This was her first book, but if you had read Sister of My Heart or Vine of Desire, you would find the same lyrical prose in this book. To be exactly, Divakaruni wrote a novel using language of poetry. This novel pictured the complexity of (Indian) immigrants' life in America, while in the same time took us to the deep of surrealism of Indian "spices". In crisis days now, you can buy the used book at www.amazon.com, start from 0.01 USD. It's crazy, and I thought nobody would buy at that price... who will believe quality of anything at that price?

Nah, now abut this free pattern.
This is the fourth design in our floral series. I named it Orange Morning, like turmeric's color, which in the novel was a spices of dawn. It's a shield against grief, as well as woman's protection from aging. Of course, it was the story...

Stitched design of Floral #3 (Blue Haze)

Assalaamu'allaykum.

Some while ago I said something about being tired (and bored) while reading Twilight "Saga". A friend asked about that. Since the trilogy was a best-seller, she wonder why I was so cynical on commenting it. Actually, I had the books for months (another friend gave me her used books before she returned to England) but I had not any chance to read yet. When finally I read the books, it was because my 8th grade niece in Banyuwangi said something about it on the phone. It was fun reading, my niece said, it's so light it made you floating void after reading. She added, she likes the book very much, too bad there's very little virtue in it, the protagonist had all they want, effortlessly, mostly for no reason except their roles as protagonists. So I thought, ah, the book is barbie-like fairy tale with prince charm a vampire hero (this is remarkably the only difference betwen Meyer's modern tale with HC Andersen's)... Sorry for being rude, but yes, I agree with my niece: Twilight Saga was media boosted.

I couldn't believe the trilogy hit the audiences so hard that it became best-seller for months. I guessed poor or ordinary girl mate with brilliant-rich-absurdly charm-super extraordinary "prince" was still a HUGE attraction for audience of girls around the world, and Alhamdulillah at the end my niece wasn't one of them. It's a pity she saved weeks of her pocket money to buy the books. However, she learnt a lesson this time: not buying any book just because of all of your friends fancy it. [GRIN]

The best thing happened later: Brisingr was finally released (in Bahasa Indonesia). I was really glad she could tell that Eragon, Roran, Nasuada, Orik the Dwarf King, and other characters in Inheritance Cycle were much more interesting, developed, and looked very much alive compared to that of Meyer's Saga. They all had complex thoughts and personality, facing challeges and obstacles, not as flat as the ones of Twilight Saga's. To me personally, since I was neither a big fan of Paolini nor Meyer, the best part of Inheritance cycle was it could show the reader how the protagonists love reading and books, never gave up, and embraced strong solidarity amongst them. The best character in Meyer's Saga was James the Werewolf, and the worst part of it was the marriage between the protagonists (really a replay of classic Andersen's tales).

Okay, I stopped this topic now. I should back to topic of this posting, which was about the third design in our floral series. I named it Blue Haze, just as reminder to our bad feelings, bad days, and other unfortunate events in our life. Even sorrow and grief, all of them actually were beautiful and completeness to our existence. Often, when time had given enough distance between us and the problems, we could she the beauty of harmony it created in our life. Masya Allah, we could only thanked Allah for the experiences, for making us stronger with them, for guarding us living our life. I hoped this title was not too ambitious ;)

Stitched design of Floral #6 (Green Grace)

Assalaamu'allaykum.

This was the sixth pattern of our floral series. If you had large room for the wall hangings, you could put the series on your pick list. The series would make your room(s) unique, but you didn't need to take them all. Four or five in a row, above a low cabinet would calm your mood in that particular room(s). It worked for me, at least.

Other thing I would mention here: Please visit to Projet Hijab Blog, particularly page on Help a Sister. It was about a sister who needed urgent help. Take action on this issue, give your donation and help spreadwide the appeal. Help this sister for the sake of Allah, May Allah reward you...

Stitched design of Floral #2 (Lamtoro Zeal)

Assalaamu'allaykum.

Lamtoro Gung (Leucaena leucocephala) or White popinac, is a small Mimosoid tropical tree native to Mexico. It is used for a variety of purposes, such as firewood, fiber and livestock feed. It has been considered for biomass production, as its reported yield of foliage corresponds to a dried mass of 2000-20000 kg/ha/year, and that of wood 30-40 m³/ha/year, with up to twice those amounts in favourable climates. It is also efficient in nitrogen fixation, at more than 500 kg/ha/year.

It was promoted as a "miracle tree" for its multiple uses. For example, not only for enriching the dirt with organic fertiliser, the leaves of lamtoro will help in curing diabetes melitus and menstrual-ache. There are a lot more medical benefits of Lamtoro leaves and stalks, but actually I name this pattern because of my neighbour. She use the leaves for feeding her goats. She is a high spirited woman, mother of 3, and she promotes lamtoro in a way you will believe that lamtoro will heal... goat's stomach problems [GRIN].

Stitched design of Floral #1 (Purple Malaga)

Assalaamu'allaykum.

Visiting Spain and admiring Islamic architechture in Granada, you would like the harbor in Malaga. It was a neighbouring province to Granada and Sevilla, and very well known for its beach, Picasso Museum, and old heritage (now it was a cathedral, you know what it was before Spanish Inquisition, 1478-1834. If you want to know more about this dark pages of history, you could consider "Islam in Andalus" by Ahmad Thomson and Muhammad Ata'ur-Rahim).

Some years ago, actuallly I visit Benidorm, Allicante. However, a souvenir seller showed me a postcard of Malaga and the palm trees in the picture were so beautiful that I could imagined the sky changging color during sunset. When I made this cross stitch pattern, that picture keep coming into my mind and I used similar colors for my work. Eventually, I named this pattern Purple malaga... hoping one day I would be able to visit the famous harbor there [ameen].

Stitched design of Floral #3 (Red Curl)

Assalaamu'allaykum.

Alhamdulillah, I survived days of disappointment after reading Twilight Trilogy. I had the books for months but had no chance to read yet. When finally I read the books, it turned to be exhausting moments. Wheeeew, I took almost two weeks to read the books, it was a real struggle: fighting boredom rise from it. Especially, I read them only several days after I read the breathtaking Night Angel Trilogy, the best books of 2008 according some critics. I stayed late for 2 days to finish the trilogy, and several times I found myself held breath in disbelief.

Eventhough the story was setted in nowhere of real world, it told exactly what happened to street children, gang members, abandoned youth anywhere in our real life, real world. I worked as volunter for children rights in 2004-05, and I could tell that Brent Weeks really knew the condition, really knew what he wrote about when he showed us Azoth's (the protagonist) life as a boy.

If you have limited budget to buy books these months, please consider the later trilogy. Night Angel Trilogy practically was the best choice because of its price. There was a sale of the first book (Way of the Shadows), a real crazy sale: $1.00 for the BIG FAT book. To know abut this sale, please check the author's blog at www.brentweeks.com --and, hurry! it won't be $1 forever. However, if you were late and the sale had already ended, I encouraged you to buy the books. Of course, it's if you are adult, because the story packed in the Night Angel Trilogy was dark, gritty, nerves tenser... really not for minors or even young adult if they didn't have guts.

Oh, well. Enough with that. Just go buy the book, and you sould see I am not a liar about Brent Weeks' works. Now I will introduce the free cross stitch pattern I brought you today. This is pattern number 5 in our floral series. Until now, there were 12 patterns in this series and insya Allah I will shared most of them.
